About the UFC — Mixed Martial Arts' Global Stage

The World's Leading Mixed Martial Arts Promotion

How a UFC event is put together, the divisions and titles on the line, and what makes a fight night worth seeing live.

World Championship Belts

Titles are contested across multiple weight divisions, with championship bouts scheduled over five rounds.

A Global Promotion

The octagon travels between major arenas on several continents, drawing fans from each host city and worldwide.

Weight Divisions

Men's and women's divisions span from the lighter classes up to heavyweight, each with its own contenders.

Numbered Events & Fight Nights

The calendar mixes marquee numbered pay-per-view cards with regular Fight Night events through the year.

Rotating Host Cities

Events are staged in indoor arenas across different cities, so each stop has its own venue and layout.

Main Card & Prelims

Each event stacks a main card and preliminary bouts on a single night, headlined by the main event.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship

The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) is the world's leading mixed martial arts promotion, founded in 1993 and now staging events in major arenas across the globe. Mixed martial arts brings together striking and grappling disciplines — boxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, muay thai and more — inside a single competitive format.

Bouts take place in the octagon, the eight-sided cage that has become the sport's signature stage. Athletes compete within defined weight divisions, and the promotion crowns a champion in each, so a UFC card can range from rising prospects on the undercard to title challengers in the main event.

How a UFC Event Is Structured

A UFC event is built from a main card and a set of preliminary bouts, all held on the same night. The main event closes the show and, for title fights and featured headliners, runs over five rounds; most other bouts are contested over three. The order builds through the evening toward the headline fight.

The calendar itself mixes two formats. Numbered events — the pay-per-view cards such as UFC 300 — are the promotion's marquee nights, usually topped by a championship or a major grudge match. Fight Night events run more frequently and showcase contenders climbing the divisional rankings. Within each division a set of ranked contenders competes for position, and a run of strong performances is what earns a fighter a shot at the belt. Which bouts land on a given card is confirmed as fights are announced.

The UFC Live Experience

Watching a UFC event in the arena delivers what a screen cannot — the walkouts, the roar as a finish lands, and the tension between rounds. Seating bowls wrap the octagon on every side, and the closer categories put you within sight of the cage while upper tiers give a full view of the card as it unfolds.

Because the promotion travels, each event is a one-night occasion for its host city rather than a recurring fixture. Fans often plan a trip around a numbered card, combining the fights with the city itself. The atmosphere peaks for the main event, when the arena is at its fullest and loudest.

Planning Your Visit

UFC events are staged in a rotating set of host cities, each using a major indoor arena with its own gates, transport links and seating map. Ticket categories run from cage-side seats to upper-tier and general views, subject to availability at each venue and event.

Seating layouts and access routes are covered per location on the venue guide, and confirmed events and on-sale details appear on the UFC 2026 schedule. For ordering, delivery and entry questions, see the FAQ page, or return to the homepage for ticket access across the calendar.
