Boser vs Diniz Preview: Volume vs Reach in a UFC Edmonton Heavyweight Fight
A Canadian heavyweight with the busier hands meets a Brazilian with longer arms and heavier knockdown numbers. Tanner "The Bulldozer" Boser and Jhonata Diniz, both unranked, collide at UFC Fight Night: Buckley vs Malott on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Rogers Place in Edmonton, with Boser fighting on home soil.
Boser (22-11-1), 35, has been in the UFC since July 27, 2019, and has landed 576 significant strikes in the Octagon at a rate of 4.82 per minute and 54% accuracy. He absorbs only 3.00 and defends 58% of strikes. Twelve of his 22 wins have come by knockout (55%), eight by decision and two by submission. Four of those wins came in the first round. Most of his work happens at range (86%), with 9% in the clinch and 5% on the ground.
Diniz (9-2-0), 34, made his Octagon debut on April 27, 2024. He is a finisher first: seven of his nine wins are knockouts (78%), the other two came by decision, and he has six first-round finishes. His output is lower, 3.89 significant strikes per minute with 3.62 absorbed, but he's slightly more accurate at 56%, defends 57% of strikes and lives almost entirely on the feet, where 94% of his significant strikes land.
The physical gap is real. Diniz stands 6-foot-4 to Boser's 6-foot-2 and owns a four-inch reach advantage, 79.5 to 75.5. He also averages 0.75 knockdowns to Boser's 0.25. Neither man shows a takedown or a submission attempt in his UFC.com numbers, both stop 70% of takedowns, and their average fight times sit close together: 10:52 for Boser, 9:56 for Diniz. Expect a stand-up fight from start to finish.
The key question: can Boser's volume close the distance Diniz's reach creates, or will the Brazilian's power catch him on the way in?
The card opens at 3 p.m. local time, and the main card follows at 6 p.m. Arrive early so you don't miss the heavyweights' walkouts. Get your seat: UFC Fight Night Edmonton tickets for Boser vs Diniz.
