Cerminara vs Stiller: A 10-Year UFC Veteran Meets a Newcomer

One of these flyweights has been in the UFC for more than a decade. The other has never set foot in the Octagon. Katlyn Cerminara, the American known as "Blonde Fighter," made her UFC debut in July 2016 and comes in at 18-6. Mackenzie Stiller, 27, debuts on Oct. 17 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, with no record or stats on UFC.com yet.

That leaves Cerminara's numbers to tell the story. At 36, she is nine years older than Stiller. She stands 5-foot-9 with a 68-inch reach, and she brings volume: 4.58 significant strikes landed per minute against 4.48 absorbed, at 35% accuracy (1,104 of 3,159). She avoids 62% of significant strikes and stops half of all takedown attempts. Almost everything happens on the feet, where 87% of her significant strikes land; the clinch accounts for 8% and the ground just 5%.

Finishing isn't her game. Fifteen of her 18 wins (83%) went to the judges, with two by knockout and one by submission. Her knockdown average is 0.06, she lands 0.31 takedowns and tries 0.31 submissions per 15 minutes, and her average UFC fight lasts 14:10.

So the question for Stiller is simple to ask and hard to answer: can she match a veteran's pace in her first UFC fight if Cerminara drags it to the scorecards, as she has in most of her wins?

The card opens at 3 p.m. local time, with the main card at 6 p.m. Get your seat: UFC Fight Night Edmonton tickets.
