About Etihad Arena

Etihad Arena is a modern indoor arena on the Yas Bay waterfront on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates. Opened in 2021, it is one of the largest indoor entertainment arenas in the region and hosts a mix of international concerts, live shows and combat-sports events, including UFC cards.

Abu Dhabi has become a regular host city for the UFC, and Etihad Arena has staged numbered events in front of crowds drawn from across the UAE and the wider Gulf. As a fully enclosed, climate-controlled venue, it is well suited to the region's warm climate, keeping the environment consistent regardless of the season.

For a fight night the central floor holds the octagon. How the rest of the hall is divided is decided by the promoter for each event.

At full configuration the hall holds 18,000, which places it among the largest indoor venues in the Gulf; the same room can be closed down to a few hundred places for a smaller production. A UFC card is staged at or near the upper figure, so a sell-out here means a crowd of that order rather than the few thousand a club show draws — worth knowing when you are judging how early the better categories are likely to go.

Location and Setting

Etihad Arena sits within the Yas Bay district on Yas Island, the purpose-built leisure area on the northeastern edge of Abu Dhabi. The island groups the arena alongside the Yas Marina Circuit, Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and Yas Mall, making it easy to build a wider trip around an event.

The venue lies roughly 30 kilometres from central Abu Dhabi — about half an hour by road outside event traffic — and some fifteen minutes from Abu Dhabi International Airport, which sits on the mainland close to the island. Yas Bay itself has become a destination in its own right, with a waterfront promenade of restaurants and cafes a short walk from the arena entrances.

Getting There

Yas Island is connected to central Abu Dhabi, Dubai and the airport by main highways and is well signposted from every direction. Most attendees arrive by car, taxi or ride-hailing, with on-island parking opened for major events at the arena.

Transport options:

  • Taxi and ride-hailing — Careem, Uber and the metered Abu Dhabi taxi fleet operate citywide; set the destination to Etihad Arena or Yas Bay and allow for queues at pick-up points after the event
  • By car — reach the island via the main highways from the city and the airport, with parking areas for major events; expect slower departures once a sell-out card ends
  • From Dubai — drivers typically allow around ninety minutes by road, more in event-night traffic

On event days, road access around Yas Bay is managed closely, so allow extra time for the final approach and security checks. Plan to arrive well before the first bouts to clear entry and find your section without rushing.

Inside the Arena

As a venue built for large-scale productions, Etihad Arena provides the infrastructure expected of a major international event site. The categories released for a given card are published on that event's page.

Food and beverage outlets operate throughout the concourses during events, and card and contactless payments are widely accepted across Abu Dhabi. Restroom and accessibility provisions are distributed across the arena; specific accessible-entry and seating arrangements for a given event are confirmed by the organiser.

Security screening at entry follows standard international event protocols, and prohibited items usually include professional cameras, large bags, and outside food and drink. Exact entry rules and permitted bag sizes are published for each event — check the specific event page before you travel.

Weather on the Day

The arena itself is fully enclosed and air-conditioned, so the temperature you sit in is the same in any month. What changes is everything either side of the doors — the walk from the car park, the promenade before the card, the queue for a taxi afterwards.

A date in late October, when UFC 333 is held, falls as the summer heat finally lets go. Daytime highs average around 34 °C and nights settle near 28 °C, with roughly ten hours of sun a day and rain rare enough to discount. That is hot for time spent outdoors at midday and pleasant by the evening, which is when Yas Bay fills up ahead of a show.

The comfortable stretch runs from November to March, when daytime figures fall into the mid-twenties and the walk between hotel, waterfront and arena entrance is easy at any hour. July and August are the opposite: heat and humidity together make even a short walk outdoors hard work, and an event in those months is worth planning door to door. In every month, carry something light to put on inside — cooling in Gulf arenas is set generously.

Visiting Abu Dhabi

A UFC night at Etihad Arena pairs naturally with a stay on Yas Island or in central Abu Dhabi. The island alone offers several days of attractions — Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and Yas Mall are all close to the arena — while the city centre adds the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Corniche, and the cultural district on Saadiyat Island, including Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Accommodation on Yas Island ranges from hotels beside the marina and the bay to properties linked to the malls and theme parks, many within a short ride of the arena. Booking ahead is advised around a major event, when demand across Abu Dhabi rises.

Most visitors can enter the UAE visa-free or with a visa on arrival, though requirements vary by nationality — check the official UAE channels before booking travel. Line up your visit with the UFC 2026 schedule, read how a fight night works on the about the UFC page, see other locations on the venue overview, or return to the homepage for ticket access.
