About Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden is an indoor arena at 4 Pennsylvania Plaza in Midtown Manhattan, and the busiest building of its kind in the United States by the range of what it hosts. It is home to the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers, and it carries concerts, boxing and touring events across the rest of the calendar.

Capacity depends on the configuration: up to around 20,800 for a full layout, and lower for arrangements where the floor is given over to a court or a rink. The bowl is unusually steep for a building of this size, which puts the upper tiers closer to the floor than the seat numbers suggest — a detail worth knowing when choosing a category.

For a fight night the floor is cleared for the octagon with seating rising on all four sides. The Garden has staged the promotion's New York cards since the state legalised the sport, and it is one of the few venues that draws an audience on its own name.

Location and Setting

Madison Square Garden sits between Seventh and Eighth Avenues in Midtown Manhattan, built directly above Penn Station — not beside it, but on top of it. That is the defining fact about the location: the arena is inside the city's transport core rather than at the edge of it.

The surrounding blocks carry hotels, restaurants and bars in every direction, and the rest of Manhattan is a short ride away. There is no entertainment district to speak of because the whole neighbourhood functions as one, which makes arriving early a matter of choosing where rather than whether.

Because the building is in the middle of Midtown, the streets around it are busy at all hours, and Saturday evening is among the busiest. That shapes how you get there more than anything else about the venue.

Getting There

The Garden is one of the easiest arenas in the world to reach without a car, and one of the hardest to reach with one.

Transport options:

  • By subway — several lines serve the station directly beneath the arena, connecting it to the whole of Manhattan and the outer boroughs
  • By rail — Penn Station carries the commuter railroads and Amtrak, so visitors arriving from outside the city step off the train underneath the building
  • On foot — much of Midtown is within walking distance, and a large share of the crowd simply walks in
  • By car — the slowest option: Midtown traffic on a Saturday evening is heavy and parking is limited and expensive

Crowds converge on the concourse in the hour before a card, and the approach through Penn Station can be dense. Allow extra time for the walk in and for security screening at the gates rather than arriving right at doors.

Venue Facilities

As a venue built for full-house events and renovated over recent years, Madison Square Garden carries the infrastructure expected of a major arena. The seating categories released for a given card are published on that event's page.

Food and drink outlets operate throughout the concourses during events, and card and contactless payment are accepted across the building. Restrooms and accessibility provision are distributed around the concourse; accessible entry and seating arrangements for a given event are confirmed by the organiser.

Security screening at entry follows standard US arena protocols, and a clear-bag policy with size limits is common at venues of this scale. Prohibited items usually include professional cameras, large bags, and outside food and drink. Exact entry rules for a specific date are published ahead of the event — check them before you travel.

Visiting New York

A fight night at the Garden needs no trip planning beyond the ticket: hotels in every price bracket sit within walking distance, and the subway covers anything further out at any hour. Booking ahead is advised around a major event, though Midtown demand is high year-round rather than only on card nights.

New York needs no introduction, and the practical point is that the arena sits in the middle of it: a card here fits into a weekend in the city rather than defining it. Mid-November is cold but comfortable for walking, and the city is already turning toward its winter season.

Most international visitors need either an ESTA authorisation or a US visa depending on nationality — check the official US channels well before booking travel. Line up your visit with the UFC 2026 schedule, read how a fight night works on the about the UFC page, see other locations on the venue overview, or return to the homepage for ticket access.
