About Rogers Place

Rogers Place opened in 2016 in downtown Edmonton, Alberta, and is the newest of the arenas on the UFC calendar this season. It was built as the home of the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL and doubles as the city's main concert hall, which means a modern bowl with sightlines designed from scratch rather than adapted from an older building.

Capacity depends on the configuration: up to around 20,700 for a full concert layout, and lower for sports arrangements where the floor carries a rink or a court. For a fight night the floor is cleared for the octagon with seating rising on all four sides, so the hall reads as a single bowl rather than a stage with an audience facing it.

Canada appears on the UFC calendar once or twice a season rather than monthly, which makes a card here a rarer occasion than one in the promotion's regular host cities. The arena is enclosed and heated, and an Alberta autumn is cold enough for that to matter.

Location and Setting

Rogers Place stands in the ICE District in downtown Edmonton — a mixed-use quarter of hotels, offices, restaurants and a public plaza built around the arena rather than a separate complex out of town. Restaurants and bars sit within a short walk of the doors, which makes the district itself the natural gathering point before and after an event.

The setting is genuinely central: much of downtown Edmonton is within walking distance, and the surrounding hotels put a visitor minutes from the gates rather than a drive away. Edmonton International Airport lies south of the city, a longer transfer than at most North American arenas.

Winter arrives early in Alberta, and the district is built with that in mind — covered walkways connect parts of it, which is worth knowing for a card in the second half of October.

Getting There

Downtown Edmonton is compact and served by light rail, so reaching Rogers Place does not require a car.

Transport options:

  • By light rail — Edmonton's LRT network serves the ICE District directly, connecting the arena to the rest of the city and to the university area
  • On foot — most downtown hotels are within a short walk, which is how a large share of the crowd arrives
  • By car — the arena is reached from the downtown grid, with paid parking in the district's own structures and in the surrounding blocks
  • Taxi and ride-hailing — both operate across the city, with designated pick-up areas used around the district after events

Traffic and foot traffic both build in the hour before a major event, so allow extra time for the final approach and for security screening at the gates. In late October the walk in can be cold, which is another reason to arrive with a margin rather than at the last minute.

Venue Facilities

As a modern arena built for full-house events, Rogers Place carries the infrastructure expected of a venue of its size and age. The seating categories released for a given card are published on that event's page.

Food and drink outlets operate throughout the concourses during events, and card and contactless payment are accepted across the building. Restrooms and accessibility provision are distributed around the concourse; accessible entry and seating arrangements for a given event are confirmed by the organiser.

Security screening at entry follows standard Canadian arena protocols, and bag restrictions are common at events of this scale. Prohibited items usually include professional cameras, large bags, and outside food and drink. Exact entry rules for a specific date are published ahead of the event — check them before you travel.

Visiting Edmonton

A fight night at Rogers Place pairs naturally with a stay in the ICE District or elsewhere downtown, where hotels sit within walking distance of the doors and the LRT covers anything further out. Booking ahead is advised around a major event, when downtown demand rises.

Edmonton rewards a longer trip in its own way: the river valley carries one of the largest urban park systems in North America, and the museums and the market district are close to the centre. Elk Island National Park lies east of the city for anyone with a spare day. Mid-October in Alberta is cold and can bring the first snow, so pack accordingly and plan indoor time around the card.

Visitors from outside Canada should check entry requirements well before booking travel — many nationalities need an eTA or a visa, and the rules differ from those for the United States.
