About Scotiabank Arena
Scotiabank Arena opened on 19 February 1999 under the name Air Canada Centre and has carried its current name since 1 July 2018. It is operated by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and is the home of two of the city's major league teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL and the Toronto Raptors of the NBA. The arena holds 19,800 people for basketball and concerts.
The building has an unusual history. The arena was built inside the Toronto Postal Delivery Building, completed in 1941, and the original Art Deco facade of Queenston limestone was kept on the Bay Street and Lake Shore Boulevard sides. The old postal building is protected under the Ontario Heritage Act, so part of what you see from the street is older than the arena by almost sixty years.
Toronto has a long UFC record at this address: UFC 140 in 2011, UFC 152 in 2012, UFC 165 in 2013, UFC 206 in 2016, UFC 231 in 2018 and UFC 297 in January 2024 were all held here. The next card on this storefront, UFC 336, is set for Saturday 30 January 2027. Two title fights are already on the card, with Joshua Van defending the flyweight title against Manel Kape in the main event.
Location and Setting
The arena is at 40 Bay Street, on the northwest corner of Lake Shore Boulevard West and Bay Street, at the southern edge of downtown Toronto. The elevated Gardiner Expressway runs just to the south.
Its most useful neighbour is Union Station, which the arena is connected to directly. The arena is also linked to PATH, the network of underground walkways beneath downtown Toronto. In late January that matters: from the trains and from much of downtown you can reach the arena with little time spent outside.
Getting There
The simplest way in is through Union Station, described as Canada's busiest transportation facility, which makes a car optional rather than necessary.
Transport options:
- Subway — Union station on TTC Line 1 Yonge–University
- From Pearson Airport — the UP Express runs between the airport and Union Station in 28 minutes, with trains every 15 minutes
- Regional and intercity rail — Union is the central hub of GO Transit commuter trains across the Toronto region and the busiest VIA Rail station in the country
- By car from the east or north — the Don Valley Parkway south to Lake Shore Boulevard East, then along Lake Shore to Bay Street
- By car from the west — the Gardiner Expressway east to the Spadina exit, straight on along Lake Shore Boulevard, then left onto Bay Street
The arena's own underground parking is reserved for suite holders and office tenants. For everyone else the nearest option is the public underground garage at 15 York Street, entered from York Street and Bremner Boulevard, open around the clock and linked indoors to Maple Leaf Square and the arena. Thousands of other public spaces lie within a short walk, and the arena suggests booking a space in advance through SpotHero. Four accessible spaces on site are reserved by phoning Fan Services; bookings open one month before the event.
Venue Facilities
Scotiabank Arena is completely cash-free: only debit and credit cards are accepted anywhere in the building, including for parking. The ticket categories released for UFC 336 are listed on the event page once sales open.
The bag policy is strict. Only small purses, clutches and belt bags smaller than 16.5 × 11.5 cm are allowed, and the arena asks fans not to bring bags at all. A larger bag may be admitted for medical or other reasons after an x-ray check, available at Gates 1, 3 and 5. Bags that do not meet the rule can be left at the paid bag check in the galleria across from Gate 1. The preferred entry gate is printed on the ticket, though the arena advises joining the shortest line at any gate.
For accessible entry and seating, contact our support team before the date: the arrangements for the event are confirmed by the organiser. Terms for a specific event can add to the arena's rules, so read the event information before you travel.
Visiting Toronto
Toronto in January is properly cold. The average daily high is −0.3 °C and the average low −6.7 °C, with about 37 cm of snow over the month and precipitation on 16 days out of 31 (Toronto, The Annex station, 1991–2020). A winter coat and boots are worth packing, and the PATH network is the easiest way to keep the walk to the arena short.
A hotel near Union Station or anywhere along Line 1 downtown puts the arena within one subway ride or a short walk. Flying into Pearson and taking the UP Express means you can reach the arena from the airport without a taxi.
